HoI4's only saving throw is Kaiserreich, and that's a mod. I'll be honest, I have not enjoyed anything released after EU4. It's probably why I have over 1500 hours in it. There's an extreme amount of things to do and try out. The DLC scheme has honestly overstayed its welcome, but that doesn't change the fact that EU4 is one of the most content-packed games out there. That being said, the Paradox game that I have spent the most time into is EU4. The sheer audacity of trying to simulate a global economy during the rise of industry and the tumultuous period leading up to WW1 is more than commendable. Vicky 2 remains my favourite Paradox game, even if it's a mess in every single way.
The one that I really got into was Vicky 2 after expansions landed to make it playable. I never watched tutorials for this one, I sort of figured it out on my own by playing it.I've been playing Paradox games since the original CK. In time you'll get the hang of industrializing and conducting trade but as a beginner, and assuming you play a relatively powerful nation like Prussia, France or the UK, you can leave most of the complicated stuff up to the AI. Really the only difference that will stand out at first from EU3 is the Sphere of Influence mechanic because apart from that most of the new features run themselves. Some people also suggest Brazil as a starting nation because its isolated and relatively powerful compared to other South American Nations. It has loads of resources, you won't have to deal with supply issues until late game and the numerous wars you'll be fighting will teach you how to manage and conduct large scale military operations. It's one of the best military simulations out there and while it can be a bit intimidating at first you'll eventually get the hang of it.Īs your first country I'd suggest Germany. Hearts of Iron 3 really isn't that complicated once you understand how the Order of Battle and Supply systems work.
